The 3 day competent crew course is a follow on from the 2 day start yachting course. This course is for those who would like to become active crew members rather than just passengers.
Experience living on board and really get to know the boat. Virtually all the course is hands on. You are the crew – without you the sails won’t go up and the boat won’t be steered. By the end of the course you should be able to steer, handle sails, keep a lookout, row a dinghy and assist in all the day to day duties on board. On successful completion of both the 2 day start yachting course, and the 3 day competent crew course, you will obtain your full competent crew certificate, whcih will enable you to sign up for the 5 day Dayskipper Theory course.
Course Pre-requisites: RYA Start Yachting Certificate - Please note you will not be allowed to participate in this course without meeting the course prerequisites
Minimum Duration: 3 Days live-aboard
Timings: 10am on the first day until 6pm on the last day. Please note that you will stay on board for the duration of this course.
Minimum Age: 16
Course Content: Knowledge of sea terms and parts of a boat, her rigging and sails, sail handling, ropework, fire precautions and fighting, personal safety equipment, man overboard, emergency equipment, meteorology, seasickness, helmsmanship, general duties, provisioning, manners, customs & rules of the road.
